My Room

I’m rearranging my dorm room today, because I always like to do that right before the start of a new semester. The bad thing about it is that I had to take down my Christmas tree and Christmas decorations today. I always like to wait a while before putting them away, not because I’m procrastinating, but because I’m always in denial about the fact that it isn’t Christmas. (Except when it actually is Christmas)

I haven’t finished organizing things yet, but my furniture has all been successfully moved. That’s the hardest part, because I’m too lazy to actually take things out of drawers or off of shelves, so my dresser and wardrobe and bookshelf and desk are really heavy. I could probably save myself a lot of effort just by emptying them before pushing them around, but I’m not quite that lazy.

Free Time

My college has a January-term, which means that I’ve been back at school for a month and have finished a class in that time, but the actual spring semester doesn’t start until this coming Monday. Right now, I am on a break, so I am free to spend hours on end doing the sorts of things that I always feel like doing, but rarely can fit into my schedule. Many of these things have to do with science fiction, playing games online, or counting and organizing things. (I have 769 pennies, with dates ranging from 1890-2011, I have read approximately 3264 pages over the past month, and there are 606 songs I like, the top 100 of which I have put in order and posted on youtube) Apparently, I’m a nerd.

Unfortunately, one thing I haven’t spent much time doing is sleeping, partly because there are so many other things to do that are much more interesting, and partly because I keep inexplicably having strange and disturbing dreams about homicidal aquatic animals. Usually, it’s either a flying octopus or a swarm of flying Betta fish. I don’t know why they’re always flying; it’s a little weird.

Groundhog Day

I’m not really sure how to call this one. At the moment, it’s quite sunny and I definitely see shadows outside, but when I woke up this morning, it was cloudy. I think that it was about eight when the sun started coming out, and I don’t know what time the groundhog wakes up.  I’m going to guess it was still cloudy at the time, though, because it really doesn’t feel like there are going to be six more weeks of winter. Apparently Alabama weather got a little confused and forgot all about winter this year, because it was never cold for more than a couple of days here and there. In principle, I’m in favor of having an early spring, but I would like to have at least a little snow this winter. At this point, I’d even settle for a slight flurry.

I hear that the official groundhog in Pennsylvania saw his shadow today. It doesn’t make sense, though, for his prediction to apply for the entire country. It’s not that I’m against federal centralization in general, but weather should clearly be a state or local issue. People should look to their own local groundhogs for weather predictions.

This is just kind of a test post to make sure that I’ve got this thing up and running. I’ve never done anything like this before, and I’m not entirely sure what I’m doing. I also don’t know what I want to say in this first post, because it seems like it should be an introduction to the blog, but I wasn’t planning on having a single topic or theme. For the moment, I will just leave it at this, and later I’ll try to have something interesting to say. In case anyone actually sees this before I have posted anything else, here is a lovely picture of my cat for you to enjoy.
